January 13, 2011The gift of pictures!
January 4, 2011After the busy season of senior pictures and working hard to get everyone’s family photos done for Christmas, I decided this year to take the week off between Christmas and New Years. It was wonderful to spend time with my husband and kids even though we ended up with the flu running its coarse though the family. This year for Christmas I gave my mother two very special pieces of art- images of her grandchildren. In October, my sister and her little boy Joe came home from Egypt for a month and I did a photo shoot with my mom and all the grand kids. I will say that it was pretty crazy. I’ve heard other photographers say how hard it is to take pictures of their own kids and I completely agree. My children were crazy and little Joe, now 3 was all over the place. Well, if you can’t beat them join them! We let it be crazy and fun! I printed the first image as a 10 x 20 and matted and framed it in a deep brown frame. I designed it for her formal living room. For the second print, I decided to go with the Posh. This is a digitally designed 16 x 24 print with 5 different images. I thought she might like this image in her new sewing room, so I picked the frame in a soft red. I was very pleased with both images and my mom cried when she unwrapped the images. She is a very proud grandmother!

Lovely Ladies!
December 11, 2010Last year, I had the pleasure of photographing Whitney’s senior pictures. This year, her dad, Bryan, contacted me to photograph all three girls together as a surprise for their mom’s birthday. How sweet is that! I think Bryan had a hard time keeping this a secrete but he managed to pull it off. He took the girls shopping and did an excellent job (with Whitney’s help) picking out outfits that I’d recommend at our phone consultation. He managed to get the girls up to Ellensburg without suspicion. I can’t tell you how sweet these young ladies are! I had a total blast photographing them. Bryan’s idea was to photograph the three girls laying down on the ground with their heads together. The girls mother, Tricia, has taken this shot of the girls every year since they were babies. This year he wanted to surprise Tricia with a professional image. On Tricia’s birthday, Bryan brought Tricia to Ellensburg for dinner and then up to our office. We waited at the office with wine and yelled surprise when they came in. Tricia was totally blown away! Below is the image that they chose for a large gallery wrap to hang above their fireplace and album pages I designed of their session.
One of my favorite photos of the year!
December 9, 2010A couple weeks ago I received a message on facebook from a gal named Jennifer. She wanted me to create images of her daughters, who are both beautiful dancers, that would be unique and different. After a consultation, we decided to do something outside even though the cold weather was heading our way. I drove to Yakima and we met at their favorite park out in the Athanum. Jennifer loves the trees that line the driveway with their vivid red leaves. On that particular day, the weather turned for the worst and it got cold. Let’s just say I was guiltily wearing my winter coat while the girls sported their dance costumes. The girls never complained! They were eager to try whatever I wanted no matter how cold they were. As I worked with the girls, I kept having a vision of an image that captured the essence of their love of dance but was organic feeling yet nurturing. I could see that the girls were very close and Kaitlyn the oldest was amazingly kind and loving with her younger sister. We were running out of time because the sun was starting to drop and the fog and overcast was cutting our day short. I had to find the perfect spot to capture my vision, so we left the park and headed up the road. I finally found what I was looking for… a field of sagebrush! I had the girls change their dance costumes and nestled them amongst the gnarly terrain. I had Kaitlyn sit holding Katia in her lap. Both girls have such poise and femininity reminding me of an old masters painting. I just find this particular image (last image) breathtakingly beautiful ! I’m going to share just a few today but I’ll be posting more images from this shoot in January.

Happy Birthday to you…..
December 4, 2010Happy Birthday Piper! Piper came to see me for her 1st Birthday and we had tons of fun. She is such a darling little girl. Mom did a great job with her outfits and I suggested that she bring a cake so we could capture her first bites of her birthday cake. At first she didn’t know what to think but once she got a taste of the frosting, she went for it. Yummy!

Adorable Family Photos
December 3, 2010If you can’t beat them….join them! Young couple, Greg and Natalia came to my studio a couple Saturdays ago hoping to get some family photos taken for the holidays. They have two adorable toe head boys that are happy and full of energy. Raising 4 energetic kids myself, I understand that kids like to be in motion and have fun! So we played….. and played……. and played! I just love the expressions on their little faces. I also love the expression on Greg’s face at the bottom of the pig pile! I told the boys to go easy on them (bounce a little harder) tee hee hee! Greg and Natalia own Iron Horse Brewery here in Ellensburg. For you beer lovers out there, you have to give their beer a try. It’s…….delicious! Check out their website here.

Family Photography
November 28, 2010I had the pleasure of photographing with this adorable family about a month ago. They had just moved to the area and were looking for a photographer to capture their young family. Their little baby Elijah is 4 month old and Natalie & Dominic wanted images that were playful and fresh. We decided to do a studio session not only to keep little baby warm but because I wanted to push the fashion element. Natalie had told me that she’d modeled for a while so I knew they’d be perfect for something more modern. We talked about outfits that would complement their personality and Natalie did a great job getting everything together. I loved that Natalie, Dominic and Elijah all had matching sneakers. And my favorite….. Natalie’s orange high heeled pumps! How sexy! I also photographed them in their WSU attire since they both went to school there. They used these photos for their Christmas cards and they turned out great! I thoroughly enjoyed working with them. Thank you Natalie & Dominic for letting me photograph your adorable little family.

Family Photographs
November 27, 2010Arlene and Jim planned ahead by scheduling their photo session in early November. They wanted to get some fun images of themselves for their home and also wanted Christmas presents to give their kids. I think photographs make wonderful Christmas gifts because they never go out of style or loose their value. In fact, I find that photographs become more valuable with time. They capture a moment in our lives that will never be again. Arlene was set on an outdoor scene with fall colors and since we’ve had such a spectacular fall this year, it was easy to accommodate her. I found Jim and Arlene to be a delightful couple! I had the best time working with them. I could feel their genuine love and affection for each other and this made my job easy. When I work with families or couples, my shooting style is to get everyone close; holding hands, hugging, kissing, tickling. This is my orientation of family. I push for interaction and it happens when I get everyone in close holding onto each other. I didn’t have to direct Jim and Arlene much. They were all about being close! At the end of the session, both Sara and I got big hugs goodbye. I feel so fortunate that my job allows me to spend time with people like Jim and Arlene and capture a day in their lives.

A day of thanks!
November 25, 2010Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! This is one of my favorite holidays. A day of spending time with family, cooking and eating too much! A day of apple pie, playing games with the kids and a day to give thanks. I personally have so many things in my life to be thankful for: my wonderful family, great friends and a job I love. I feel very fortunate to have a job that feeds my creativity but most importantly gives families photographs that will always be cherished. Photographs not only capture the physical age or appearance of a person but they have the power to bring back wonderful memories or a shared experience . These moments in time will never happen again but photographs help preserve them. I feel very honored to have this job. I’d like to say thank you to all my clients that have trusted me with their family memories. I hope you all have a wonderful day with your family. These cute little guys below are my kiddos.
