Senior Portraits Yakima

October 30, 2010

I’d like to share Colton’s senior pictures.  He is a student at West Valley High School and he is also one of my Photonuvo models this year.  I really had fun photographing him because he was so game to try anything.  We knew that he wanted to enter the SPA Contest (read below) so I took a little more time at his session and set up a complicated lighting pattern for his “man on fire” shot.  It’s definitely edgy and I’m sure SPA will love it.  I’m sure all the girls will love it too! Ha!

I’m proud to say I’m a member of the Senior Portrait Artist organization.  SPA is “an organization on a constant quest to provide information for the senior photographer in a creative, artistic, and innovative form from both inside and outside the photography industry”.  Basically it’s an amazing group of photographers that network together from all over the USA to learn and perfect their craft.  I’ve been part of this organization for 5 years now.  I’m constantly trying to better myself as a photographer and this is the finest, most cutting edge organization out there.  Each year SPA holds a convention and they need models in order to teach photographers new lighting and techniques.  So instead of hiring professional models, they hold a contest and look for high school senior models.  Only studios that are members can submit entries.  Two years ago Danielle Ball from West Valley was one of the models chosen.  SPA gave her an all expense paid trip to Las Vegas to model for the convention.  Last year Ryan Wells from West Valley and Briana Tamaki from Davis made it all the way to the finals.  This year, Autumn Turcott from East Valley and Colton Wilkins from West Valley will try their luck.  They will be competing to be one of the 15 out of 400 chosen.  I’m so excited for them!  SPA will be announcing the semi-finalists next week.  You can follow their progress at http://www.spaModels.com and on facebook  http://www.facebook.com/spamodels.  Good Luck!

I love the fall

October 28, 2010

I’ve been working like crazy these past few months.  Senior season is in full swing and now with the beautiful fall colors, families are starting to fill my calendar.  I love the fall colors and also the quality of light the fall brings.  The sun stays low on the horizon creating a soft light in the sky.  The clouds take on a billowy appearance and the sky is a deep blue.  I photographed a family session today way out in the northeast corner of the valley.  It was absolutely beautiful…. and so was my family.  All my Photonuvo models receive a free family session so Jessica Forgey’s family took advantage of my offer and we spend about an hour and half playing and having fun.  I’ll post some of their images soon.  I still have some openings on my calendar if anyone is interested in a family session.  I have a rodeo coupon that I will extend to anyone that mentions they read about it on my blog.  It’s good for 50% off your session fee.  Don’t wait….. the weather won’t last!

Senior Pictures Yakima

October 27, 2010

I want to share some photos from Lisa Garza’s senior picture session.  Lisa is a senior at Davis High School this year and I had a great time working with her.  I photographed both her older brothers and now it was Lisa’s turn in front of the camera.  I couldn’t take a bad picture of her.  She has a contagious smile and amazingly beautiful eyes that I’m sure gets her lots of attention from the boys.  She laughed a lot and was genuinely happy and fun.  We all had fun at her session!  I have to say I have the best job in the world!

My employee Sara just got back from a ten day stay in London.  She just happened to be there during “Fashion Week” so I thought you’d all love to hear the latest news in European Fashion.  Here’s what she saw:

Scarves, scarves and more scarves!
Pashminas, cashmere, knitted, and silk scarves!
Wrapped, tied, knotted.
Thrown on or around woman’s necks all over London.
And PS…I  saw men with scarves too.

Skinny Jeans and leggings with long sweaters,
belted raincoats and cropped jackets!
Tunics paired with anything!

Boots! knee high boots, short boots, high heels, wedges.
Anything goes in the boot category

After photographing and submitting a couple test shoots to the Seattle Model Guild, they’ve signed me on as an official SMG photographer in Eastern Washington.  This means that when SMG has a model in Eastern Washington that needs some test shots done for their portfolio, they don’t have to drive all the way to Seattle.  I’ll mostly be working with models that have already been picked up by the Guild but I’ll also be keeping an eye out for potential talent in my high school seniors clients that I photograph.  In fact, as part of my Photonuvo Model Program for next year, every model will get one of their model images submitted to the SMG.  How cool it that!
