Studies show that certification is the most widely recognized consumer credentials and Professional Photographers of America is the leading certifying agent for professional photographers.  Photographers have to pass a comprehensive written exam measuring their technical expertise and also successfully submit their work to a panel of judges for review and approval. Testing sites and image submission are only available 4 times a year.  This year while at Imaging USA I took and passed the written exam.

$1000 CHARITY DONATION

January 24, 2009

I won!  My name was drawn at the Senior Portrait Artists Convention as one of the lucky winners of the Miller’s 100K Charity Program. Miller’s donates $1000 to the charity of choice for each winning photographer.  I think this is a great program!  I lost my father to cancer 3 years ago and since then I’ve become a big supporter of the American Cancer Society.  Each year I run in the Nike Hood to Coast Relay Race and participate in the Charity Runners program.  In 2009, the Hood to Coast Race raised $290,000 for the ACS.  Our team contributed $2500.  Miller’s graciously agreed to donate my $1000 on my Personal Charity Runners site.  Check it out if you have a chance.  Thank you Miller’s!

JANUARY- CONVENTION MONTH

January 18, 2009
I’m finally back in town!  What an incredible 2 1/2 weeks! My first stop was Las Vegas to the Senior Portrait Artist (SPA) Convention.  I’ve been a member of SPA for two years now and I love this organization.  They’re on the cutting edge of senior imagery and each year I can’t wait to learn all about the new techniques and trends for the upcoming senior season.  This year West Valley student Danielle Ball won an all expense paid trip to the convention after I submitted her senior images to the organization.  Any student that has their senior pictures taken at photonuvo is eligible for the SPA model program.  You can check out their website at www.spamodel.com.  Danielle did an incredible job!  I’ve posted some images of her below on the catwalk and also some images I took of the other models. Also posted are images of Danielle taken by Kirk Voclain, a well know photographer that spoke at the convention.

After SPA, I headed South to attend Professional Photographers of America Convention held in Phoenix, Arizona.  This fabulous organization promotes creative imagery and education for professional photographers.  This was my first year attending and the classes and education that I received were well worth the trip.  I have tons of new ideas and products that I’ll be implementing at my studio.
