My recent submission of West Valley High School senior, Danielle Ball, in the Senior Portrait Artists (SPA) Model Competition resulted in Danielle being selected among the winning entries.  The SPA Model competition featured over 100 professional photography studios from around the United States and Canada and more than 300 model submissions.  SPA, an international association, is the premiere organization for professional photographers specializing in senior portraiture.  As an association, it keeps its members informed of the latest trends in professional photography.  Every year SPA brings together top professionals from the worlds of photography, fashion, and business to keep it’s members on the cutting edge of creativity, portraiture, business, and technology.

This years SPA event will be held in the always fun and glamorous Vegas!!  Danielle will receive an all expense paid trip to Las Vegas and we will stay at the stunning Red Rock Resort.  This is an amazing resort. Take a few minutes and check it out!  Danielle will model for some of the nations top portrait and fashion photographers and will also have a chance on the cat walk modeling the latest fashions.  I can’t wait until January.  We’re going to have so much fun!

You or someone you know could be the next lucky winner!  The SPA Model Program is available though my studio and we are seeking potential entrants from the class of 2010.  Entries are due the end of September, so if interested, you will need to begin your Senior Portrait Session in the summer or early fall.  More info about this program will be posted soon.

The PhotoNuvo Model Program search is also underway for 2010 seniors.  I’m currently accepting applications from students graduating in 2010 who are outgoing, have an interest in modeling and would like to save money on their senior pictures.   This program is a rewarding and uniquely exciting opportunity for any student.  As a PhotoNuvo Model, you will receive an exclusive Fashion Session and Senior Session at no cost.  In addition, you can earn discounts off your enlargement order.  Click here to download the application.  A current image must be submitted with your application.

Erin Collier Ike Senior

October 20, 2008

I’m now taking sessions on Sundays to get all my seniors photographed to meet their annual deadline.  We did Erin’s session yesterday and it was a gorgeous day.  She chose my Ultimate Session and wanted to do half now and the rest in the spring.  Erin has the most beautiful skin.  She reminded me of a porcelain doll with big almond shaped eyes.  Wow, I feel sorry for the boys at Ike!

I love the name Vida!!!  How fun to go though life with such an interesting and exotic name.  Vida definitely lives up to her name.  She is down to earth yet spirited and uniquely beautiful.  My stylist and I enjoyed hanging out with her and her family (mom, sister and grandma) who came along.  This made it easy to get great photographs.  With all my clients, I try to get different expressions.  Whenever I asked for a more serious expression, Vida would start smiling and laughing.  Smiling is definitely Vida’s strong suit.  I’ll take smiles over being too serious any day!  PS.  I’m secretly hopping your grandma might whip me up a batch of her famous tamales.  I love tamales!!  I’ll see you soon for your viewing appointment.

Each year I attend a continuing education seminar called SPA – Senior Portrait Artist.  This is a group of cutting edge photographers that share their ideas and knowledge of their field with other photographers around the country.  It’s always a great learning experience for me and always inspirational!  Each year they have a Model Competition where they ask photography studios around the nation to submit images of their senior students in hopes of finding “real senior models” (not professional models) to work with at the convention.  They use these students to demonstrate photo techniques to attending photographers.  The models also participate in a fashion show where they show off the latest fashions!  It’s quite exciting! This year Danielle Ball will be participating in the Model Competition and I’ve posted some of her entry images below.  I really think she has a great chance of being one of the finalists.

I was so excited after Ashley’s shoot, I stayed up late last night to process her images.  Ashley has a great look (somewhat exotic) and we worked hard to capture her uniqueness.  She had great ideas that we developed into cool poses – working first in the “industrial sheik” of the alleys and then heading to the park for a more traditional “senior look”.  I think she photographed great!  Lindsey Adams from Highland did her job shadow with me and the three of us had lots of fun.  We cruised in my hubby’s car, the 69 Camaro, to the park and back and those two beautiful girls turned many heads as we headed though town.

Happy Anniversary to Us!

October 8, 2008
I just took two days off to celebrate my Wedding Anniversary with my rocker hubby Mike Wilson.  We’ve been together for 18 years and I feel so fortunate and blessed to have married such a wonderful man.  He’s a commercial fisherman during the summer and the rest of the year is the lead singer of the Satus Creek Band.  He has an incredible voice and is a very talented musician.  He’s the kind of guy that writes me love songs for my birthday!  What can I say, I married a romantic!   We got to spend two nights at Suncadia Resort thanks to Sarah and Liz and it was fantastic.  Here are a few images at sunset and the two of us messing around with the camera.  Mike’s very good at holding the camera at arms length and taking a picture (even my 5 lb camera).  Finally, someone thought we needed help and offered to take a photo of us (last photo).

I had a great time photographing  Adrienne Biglow on Monday.  West Valley was lucky to have the day off from school so we spent the afternoon catching some fun shots of Adrienne.  We did a Unique Session so we worked in my studio where I have great control over the light and then hit the back alleys of Eburg.  I love Adrienne’s “serious look”.  I look forward to showing you the rest of your great images.
